The primary purpose of the Sulphur Polishing Filter is to remove the last contaminants such as filter aids and ashes, that might plug the catalyst mass down stream the sulphur burners. The removal of solids contaminants reduces pressure build up in the downstream converters and adsorbers and thus decreases maintenance costs and improves the operation time of the sulphuric acid plant.

Various types of filter media can be used in the Self Cleaning Candle Filter.
Carbon Ceramic Filter Tubes are being used The solids are retained on the outside of the tubes. Filter cake is being removed by back blowing with steam.
Improvement can be made using the Self Cleaning Candle Liquid Sulphur Polishing Filter.
These candles are SS with support rack covered with Teflon ® filter cloth. The filtration is from outside to inside, so the filter cake is retained on the surface of the filter cloth. Cleaning is performed by back blowing by air. The filter cloth is lifted from the support candle by the air pulse in reverse direction, the cake diameter is expanded, will release from the Teflon ® filter cloth and is discharged through a drop bottom door at the bottom of the filtervessel.
For small flow rates and relatively low solid contents, special design bag filters can be used. These filters can be installed as a duplex system for continuous processes. The investment cost for bag filters is relatively low.

The Polishing filter housings are made of Carbon Steel and are fully jacketed.
Optional pressure gauges or differential pressure gauges can be supplied.
