The convertor of the SULPHURIC ACID plant is hearth
of the acid plants. It holds the valuable catalyst which convert the SO2 to SO3. In sulphur burner plants ash content is a critical issue. To prevent ash entering converter and to protect the catalyst from contamination LCK® GAS SEPARATOR can be installed straight after the waste heats boiler.
The LCK® GAS SEPARATOR offers the following features:
♦ Low stable pressure drop
♦ Compact construction
♦ Integrated dust and liquid draining
♦ Fully automated operation
♦ Low maintenance cost
♦ Excellent removal efficiency
♦ Wide operation range
♦ Non-clogging and Self-cleaning
The operation principal is as follows:
the gas enters the separator and flow through a venture into the actual separator cell. The separator cell consist out 4 segments holding a spin rag of lamella. After the separator cell the gas stream is split in a bleed stream holding the solids and a clean as stream. The bleed stream is varying between the 1% or 10% of the main flow in which the solids are concentrated. The clean gas stream leaving the separator and the bleed is directed to the solid storage cell. Due to the low gas velocity the solids separate from the gas stream and settle in the solids storage cell. The venture keeps the bleed flow up-right.
By means of a level indicator in the solid storage tank, the amount of collected solids can be controlled.
Full bore Ball Valves permit shutting of the bleed stream redirecting the bleed stream to a second solids storage tank.

As this gas mixture passes through the lamella, it is forced to change directions several times. The low density gas can easily pass this tortuous path, but the liquid is unable to change direction without impinging upon the lamella wall. At each change in direction, a centrifugal force is imparted on the gas liquid mixture, which throws the liquid particles against the wetted lamella walls. These liquid droplets coalesce into larger particles. In the liquid separator the liquid droplets are forced into a centrifugal rotation and separated form the gas stream. The liquid is collected in a liquid sump provided with appropriate level controls to control draining to an atmospheric storage tank.
